ACLU says officials 'smear' in Foley case


Off duty copper goes out of his way to trail a black high profile football star in a his own car for miles with out picking up his cell phone to call back up sounds like bull crap to me. If someone was following me all through out San Diego, I would defend my self too although It would really be a down fall if that person shot me a couple of times.
I want the cops to be accountable for their mistakes too. That cop did not follow protocol. He should be fired but as you know he will get pats on his back and given awards.. I say this is becoming a police state.


Officials with the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union accused county prosecutors and law enforcement of running a smear campaign in their investigation into the shooting of a San Diego Chargers linebacker.
Steve Foley was shot Sept. 3 by an off-duty Coronado police officer who suspected Foley of drunken driving.

ACLU officials said information about Foley's past run-ins with police should not have been included in a search warrant affidavit filed in San Diego Superior Court on Thursday.
They also said it was inappropriate for the investigator in the District Attorney's Office who wrote the affidavit to make a reference to roid rage, a term used for uncontrollable outbursts and violence exhibited by some steroid users, according to the document.
It is a catchy way to smear Mr. Foley, said Kevin Keenan, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial counties, during a news conference.
